Prednisone
An old drug, used to damp down inflammation, which is part and parcel of many conditions, including:
Prednisone is used to treat a variety of inflammatory, autoimmune, and hormonal conditions. It works by suppressing the body’s immune response and reducing inflammation.
- Severe allergic conditions
- Certain disorders of your skin, hormonal system, digestive tract, blood, nervous system, eyes, kidneys, or lungs
- Certain types of cancer
- Rheumatoid arthritis
Dr. William Boyd refers to “corticosteroid therapy” as “THE REFUGE OF THE DESTITUTE!”
Severe Allergic Reactions
- Breathing problems or wheezing
- Racing heart
- Fever or general ill feeling
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
- Trouble swallowing or throat tightness
- Itching, skin rash, or pale red bumps on the skin called hives
- Nausea or vomiting
- Dizziness, feeling lightheaded, or fainting
- Stomach cramps
- Joint pain
Reduced Adrenal Function.

Mood Changes. Prednisone can cause changes in your mental status, including mood swings, personality changes, and depression. It can make you nuts!
Weak Bones.
Vision Problems. Cloudy or foggy vision

- Changes in how you see colors
- Problems with glare (such as traffic lights when driving at night)
- Loss of vision
- Eye pain or redness
- Severe headache or vomiting
- Seeing bright, colorful circles around lights (vision halos)
Slowed Growth in Children.
Muscle Problems
- Muscle pain, stiffness, or cramps
- Muscle spasms
- Low energy levels or feeling easily tired, especially with activity
