Meet Dr. Harte

I am a chiropractor. I am not a healer. I am not within any branch of alternative or complementary or integrative medicine. I serve pure, unadulterated, “straight” Chiropractic. To add anything to it (Chiropractic) would be to diminish its value, and to, thereby, diminish my service to you. I am a chiropractor.

As a child, I was a medical nerd. I used to watch all the medical shows of the era (late 50’s/early 60’s) on TV… Ben Casey, Dr. Kildare… with a notebook, a Merck Manual and a medical dictionary. By the time he was eight years old, I “knew” that I would be a medical doctor, probably an orthopedist.

I went to college and completed my pre-med studies, earning a B.A. in Biology from Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. I spent two years in medical college, at La Faculté de la Médècine de Marseille in France.

I witnessed my father permanently maimed (from spinal surgery) and then killed (by the medical treatment of his diabetes, and the subsequent failure to provide adequate emergency care for the resultant massive cardiac infarction… heart attack) by medical foolishness, indifference and gross incompetence. While my training and medical socialization led me to believe that Chiropractic was quackery, a desperate health emergency of my own led a friend to get me to see a chiropractor. This chiropractor, Dr. Douglas Eglauf (White Plains, N.Y.), literally saved my life.

So… I quit medical school, took no credits, and enrolled in New York Chiropractic College. At N.Y.C.C., I was a founding member of the Patient Education Committee, and a student teaching assistant in technique (adjusting) classes for Dr. Frank DeGiacomo. While still in school, I had an article published in OMNI magazine about cancer, foolish medical perspectives, and Chiropractic. (Click on the link, PUBLISHED ARTICLES.) I graduated with Merit in December of 1980. My wife, Carole, and I moved to California, to Marin County, where I began practice in October, 1981.

My son, Abraham, is the epitome of what can happen when a child has had chiropractic care since birth (adjusted at 5 minutes old, actually), allowing Innate Intelligence to express itself fully. Abraham was virtually never sick as a child. On the occasion that he didn’t feel 100%, he would say “Daddy, adjust me.” I would adjust him, and he would be fine in fifteen or twenty minutes.

Abraham is a sixth grade drop-out. At the age of 11, he enrolled in the College of Marin. (The “baby face” on the college ID card was pretty funny.) In May, 1999, at the age of 14, he graduated with four associate's degrees. He was accepted as a transfer student (one of only eight) at Cal Tech in Pasadena, California, home to over thirty Nobel laureates. In the summer of 1999, he had a full-time, paid position at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, assisting in a project looking into the origins of the universe. Abraham graduated from Cal Tech, with honors, when he was 17, with a Bachelor’s in physics. In August, 2007, he received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Penn State at the age of 22. Now, he's finishing his position as a post-doctoral Fellow at the prestigious Enrico Fermi Institute at the University of Chicago. His next stop? Albert Einstein Institute in Potsdam, Germany.

I firmly believe that every child deserves to be able to express his or her potential with Chiropractic, as soon after birth as possible. Even better if the parents have been adjusted well before conception. Does that sound a bit radical? Well, it may be radical within the context of today’s “Fast, Fast Relief”… artificial parts… faked pharmaceutical research… bought government health officials… overall medical insanity. Every new idea sounds radical at first, like democracy, flush toilets, automobiles, electric lights, computers, cell phones, etc.

I have been in private practice in Marin County, California for almost three decades. I continues to work tirelessly to get the word out about Straight (Wellness, Vertebral Subluxation-centered Chiropractic, to serve as many people as possible, especially whole families, with the highest level of Chiropractic care, allowing for a brighter and healthier future for the individual, the family and the community.

I take what I do very seriously, though my office is generally the most fun part of anyone’s day who comes by. I am constantly studying and thinking, expanding my knowledge and skills, refining my techniques of both analysis and adjustment, to serve you better.

Because of my concern about the quality of his profession, I now coach other chiropractors from around the world. I write extensively, both in the popular press (click on the link, http://www.chirodrharte.com/templates20/custom-content/1published_articles) and in the chiropractic press, doing my best to make sure that people understand the proper role of Chiropractic… the detection, removal and prevention of Vertebral Subluxation Complex, the most serious threat to anyone’s health, and to the full expression of their potential. Towards that end, also, I publish a weekly ezine for the public, the HARTE OF HEALTH, available at no charge. Make sure that you sign up for it. Click on http://www.chirodrharte.com/templates20/contact.html.

I am an activist within my profession, spending considerable time and effort. I am known for my resistance to unwarranted government restriction and abuse of real Chiropractic, and real Chiropractors. I have been instrumental in the firing of staff members of the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and the restructuring of the Board itself by the Governor. Within the profession, I am known as “The Chiropractic Avenger.”

My real thoughts about the “Big Vision” of Chiropractic? "To merely consider the importance of Chiropractic to an individual, even when it is greatly life-enhancing, even when it is literally life-saving, is short-sighted. As we are considering the fuller expression of an individual's potential on a physical, mental and social basis through Wellness Chiropractic Care, we must consider how much better that individual, and other individuals enjoying Chiropractic, will function as part of the family, of the community, of America. Would you want your local school bus driver to be functioning at 100%, or less? How about the mechanic fixing your brakes, or the pilot of the plane that you will be taking on vacation, or the air traffic controller, or your legislators, or the PG&E linemen after a bad winter storm, or your local police and fire people, the servicemen and women defending our country, your children's teachers, your friends, your parents, your spouse, and most of all, your kids? 100%, or less? Better individuals in better families in better communities in a better world, or not? That is the totality of the decision to be part of Big Vision of Chiropractic."

Do I fit into the mold of the popular perception of what a chiropractor should be (a fixer of bad backs and necks)? Absolutely not, and proud of it! Serving you with the best chiropractic care that I can provide is far more important than me “fitting in.” I don’t care about fitting in. I care about serving you. I am not part of the medical model. Frankly, I am appalled by chiropractors who attack Medicine, and then try to copy their ways. They end up as third-rate medical doctors. I decided to be a chiropractor. Your nervous system, your health, your life is at stake. Everyone with a spine and a nervous system… everyone… need chiropractic care for health, for life. I will help you.
