CHIROPRACTIC:
MYTHS vs. THE TRUTH
MYTH: Once you start going to the chiropractor, you have to go forever.
TRUTH: No, no and yes. No, there is no lifetime contract. Patients leave care when they like. No, Chiropractic is not addictive, unless you consider an attachment to better health to be unhealthy. Yes, you should have Chiropractic care for as long as you wish to function on an optimal basis, physically, mentally and socially, which in a sane person, is a lifetime affair.
MYTH: Chiropractic is dangerous.
TRUTH: Chiropractic is vastly safer than any drug or medical procedure. Chiropractic malpractice premiums are miniscule compared to those paid by M.D.'s. When a chiropractor makes a mistake, nothing (as opposed to a good result) happens, or one might end up a little sore. Compare this to these frightening statistics for the other team. It has been estimated that over 100,000 people die each year in this country of prescription drugs taken in the controlled medical environment, the hospital. About 2 million hospital patients a year (between 5 to 10% of the hospital population) acquire a nocosomial (from the hospital) infection, from which there are between 100,000 and 300,000 deaths. It has been estimated that there are between 3 million and 6.25 million unnecessary surgeries annually, resulting in between 40,000 and 83,000 unnecessary deaths. Prescription errors are skyrocketing. Alcoholism and drug abuse amongst medical doctors, nurses and pharmacists is rampant. Take a look at an article I wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle: http://chirodrharte.com/articles/where_is_the_danger.pdf
MYTH: Chiropractors are quacks! "I tried Chiropractic, and it didn't work."
TRUTH: Yes, there are chiropractors that are quacks, thieves and lunatics. However, there are medical doctors that are quacks, thieves and lunatics, but they "blend in" better. If you went to a bad dentist, you would look for another one rather than waiting for your teeth to fall out. If your plumber couldn't fix a broken pipe in your house, are you going to let your house flood? No? So, if you have been to a bad chiropractor, find yourself a better one. (P.S.: In cases where "Chiropractic didn't work," I find that 9 out of 10 times, the chiropractor wasn't even serious enough about Chiropractic and your well-being to take X-rays and provide a detailed plan of care for you. You need a straight, subluxation-centered chiropractor, who is serious about Chiropractic, and about helping you.) So many of my Practice Members have had poor experiences elsewhere, and then, had a whole different experience here. Take, for example, the experince of Joe Colabella, from CLEAR LAKE:
“I was skeptical at first, as I had been to several chiropractors over the years who did me more harm than good. But, during the weeks that followed, my range of motion and mental outlook had become better and better. Most of the pain disappeared. My vision, which required three different sets of bifocals in five years, returned to normal. I only need reading glasses. I drive two hours (105 miles) from Clear Lake to Corte Madera to get adjusted by Dr. Harte.”
Patty Charley, of Petaluma:
"Before I found Dr. Harte, I had been to one accupuncturist and 11 other chiropractors. Besides getting rid of back and neck pain, Dr. Harte's care has improved my life in so many areas........energy, emotional and mental clarity, flexibility, sports abilities, a sense of well-being and overall enthusiasm. Thanks, you're the best!"
MYTH: Chiropractors are expensive.
TRUTH: For the service that they provide, chiropractors are absurdly cheap. Running your body down with a damaged, poorly functioning nervous system is expensive, sometimes terminally so. Rent a room in a hospital for a day ("luxurious" and "nutritious" meals included) and tell me what is expensive. Go to the dentist for a four unit bridge, and you will spend four to five thousand dollars! The dental lab (the folks who actually make the bridge) charge the dentist only $400. You've only had two or three trips to the dentist. Or, you can get a tooth implant... that's one tooth... for $6, 7, 8,000. Now, that's expensive!
