Marin Straight Chiropractor | Dr. Don Harte
"You want ME to go to a chiropractor??? Are you kidding??? I'm a medical student! Chiropractors are a bunch of quacks!"

I wanted to be a medical doctor since I was seven or eight years old. In 1968, just before I began college as pre-med, I threw my back out, badly. (I was working as a hospital orderly.) I went to the orthopedist, who was my hero. (Yes, I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon.) He said that I had spondylolisthesis, which means that my last lumbar vertebra was in two pieces instead of one... very unstable. He prescribed a very strong pain medication, and told me that I would be back by the time I was 30 or 40 to have a total lumbar fusion.
I did my four years of college pre-med. Went on to medical school. When I was home for the summer after the second year, my back exploded. I was bent over, pain going down both legs, even losing control of my bladder. I was only 23. That was when a friend suggested that I go to a chiropractor. You already read what I said to him.
Finally, totally desperate, I went to Dr. Douglas Eglauf. He did the most thorough exam I ever had, took X-rays, and explained everything. I still thought this stuff was witchcraft, but I let him adjust me. I stood up straight and pain-free for the first time in months. It was time to change the course of my life.
I enrolled in New York Chiropractic College, and graduated in 1980. The most important thing that I learned was that Medicine does not heal, nor does Chiropractic. I learned that the Power that made the body heals the body. There is an Innate Intelligence within all of us, indeed, within all living things. This Innate Intelligence heals us when we are sick, mends us when we are injured, controls and coordinates the quadrillions of cells in our bodies for the benefit of the whole, except when there is interference. Chiropractic corrects this interference, allowing the body to express itself more fully.
Chiropractic saved my life!
I turned my back on a medical career to become a chiropractor. So, I take Chiropractic very seriously. I take doing my absolute best for you, very seriously.
Sadly, I can't count the number of times that I've heard "I tried Chiropractic, but it didn't work." Chances are that, though you saw someone who has a "D.C." after his or her name, he or she is delivering something less than, or other than, Chiropractic. No X-rays, no neurological scans, no specific plan of care? Ever heard the term " Vertebral Subluxation Complex," and its implications as the #1 risk factor to your health? Probably not. Did the so-called chiropractor give you generalized, rough manipulations, the same thing, every day, every day, or perhaps used a weird instrument that vibrates you instead of adjusts you? Has your care been totally directed towards just pain relief, with the rubbing on of Bio-Freeze, electric stimulation, laser treatments, and/or those "disk decompression tables?" None of this is Chiropractic. Time for the real thing? What did you say?
Here, at The Harte of Chiropractic, it is different!
As a straight chiropractor, I concern myself with Cause, rather than covering up pain or other symptoms, like Medicine does, like, very sadly, many chiropractors do.
I have Practice Members ranging from babies to those in their 90's. People have come to me with migraines, depression, anxiety, ALS, herniated disks, Parkinson's, vertigo, hormonal issues, bad hips and knees (even "bone-on-bone"), urinary problems, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, GERD, thyroid problems, insomnia, just to name a few. They've brought in their kids with ADHD, colic, chronic strep throats and earaches, "growing pains," etc. I don't treat or cure anything, including what I've just listed. I correct interference, allowing your body to heal. It's as simple as that.
My main adjusting technique is Directional Non-Force Technique, which includes adjustment, when indicated, of spinal disks, TMJ and the extremities (knees, hips, shoulders, etc.) Other techniques I incorporate are Upper Cervical Specific, Logan Basic, Columbia and Applied Kinesiology.
I am a leader within the Chiropractic profession!
I have served on the International Board of Governors of the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA). I was named their "Chiropractor of the Year" in 2006 for defending the right of chiropractors to tell the truth about Chiropractic, instead of the "medically acceptable" popular but distorted version. For the WCA, I have lead the California delegation in Washington, D.C. I have served on the Board of Directors of the Council on Chiropractic Practice. I am a proud member of the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations, and a supporter of Sherman College of Chiropractic. I have been a speaker at chiropractic colleges and chiropractic and non-chiropractic venues. I have been published in OMNI magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, Chiropractic Journal and Journal of the California Chiropractic Association.
Just before beginning NY Chiropractic College, I met my wife, Carole, who was running Mother Nature's Health Food Store in Scarsdale, NY. We married a year later. It's been over 30 years. (Is that a record for California?) After I gave Carole her first adjustment, a lifetime of asthma ended.
Our son, Abraham, was born in 1984. Of course, he was checked for subluxation, and had his first adjustment, when he was five minutes old. (The birth process itself is often the cause of the first subluxation.) No vaccinations, of course. (His Innate Intelligence needed no help, just no interference, just like your Innate Intelligence and that of your kids.) When he was still in school with kids his own age, and all the others were getting colds, the flu, earaches, he was the only one who didn't get sick.
Chiropractic can help you live your life to it's fullest potential
Abraham dropped out of the sixth grade, and began College of Marin when he was 11. He graduated at 14 with four associate degrees. He went on to Cal Tech in Pasadena, where he graduated with honors at 17. He received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Penn State when he was 21, and went on to do his post-doctoral work at the University of Chicago. He is now a supervising research physicist at the Albert Einstein Institute in Germany. How did he get so far, so fast? Well, as I said, this... Chiropractic... is not really about back pain. It is about releasing your brain and your nervous system to express itself more fully, including expressing more of your genetic potential. (According to the forlorn bureaucrats of the Board, I am supposed to tell you that I am not guaranteeing a Ph.D. at 22 for every child brought in here. Shows you how much respect the government has for your intelligence).
So, if you're really scared, if you're in horrible pain or "living with" one or several chronic diseases, even if you're facing some very risky surgery, I understand. I've been there! If you think you're skeptical, if you think that Chiropractic is a joke, I've been there, too! (If you are checking this out to improve your health, on a wellness basis, you are to be honored!) So, come along with me. Call me now! "I will help you."
