What To Expect in Your Chiropractor & What To Avoid

Expect A High Level Of Chiropractic Science, Including:

  • X-rays, to visualize misalignments, distortions and degeneration of the spine. The entire spine is X-rayed, because it is a functional unit. (Medical X-rays that are taken lying down are useless for chiropractic purposes.)

  • Two types of neurological scans, one of the autonomic portion of the nervous system (the part that controls your heart, lungs, immune system, reproductive system, liver, etc.), and the other of motor system, the portion that controls the muscles.

  • Re-examinations, to objectively track your progress, and to make sure that we are achieving our goals.

  • Practicing Chiropractic without being able to see, quantify and monitor Vertebral Subluxation Complex (what we correct with the chiropractic adjustment) is like driving a car with your eyes closed.

Except A High Level Of Chiropractic Art:

A sophisticated combination of chiropractic techniques. Think of this capability as an artist with more colors of paint, and more types of brushes. The bottom line is that this diverse clinical approach allows me to best deal with all sorts of people, of clinical situations, and to be continually “on point” as you change through the course of your own care.

  • Directional Non-Force Technique (DNFT): a very gentle technique to adjust the vertebrae, cranial bones and extremities (shoulders, knees, hips, etc.) in specific directions, in multiple planes of motion. Spinal disks are also adjusted, when needed. You can consider it “surgery to go.” Special attention is given to the coccyx (the tailbone) which, when subluxated, can adversely effect the tone of the whole central nervous system.

  • Upper Cervical Specific (Palmer Technique): Used to reduce direct interference to the upper spinal cord, the brain stem and the meninges (the covering over the brain and the spinal cord).

  • Logan Basic: A very gentle technique to balance the base of the spine, and reduce undue torque and tension to the meninges, and, thereby, to the central nervous system.

  • Columbia Technique: a versatile technique allowing "stuck" areas of the spine to release.

  • Applied Kinesiology: a technique that deals with patterns in muscles.

Expect A High Level Of Chiropractic Philosophy (Purpose, Direction, Intention)

  • As a “straight chiropractor,” I realize that the power that made the body heals the body, and that Nature needs no help… just no interference.

  • Recognition of the need to adjust everyone on the planet. It is not necessary to have back pain to be a chiropractic patient. The three requirements are to (1) have a desire for real health, (2) to have a spine, and (3) to be breathing.

  • Recognition of the special need to provide chiropractic care for pregnant women, as the state of their health directly determines the health of their babies.

  • Recognition of the special need to adjust children as soon as possible after birth, to allow their Innate Intelligence to express itself to the fullest, as they grow and develop.

  • Understanding that, whether sick or well, every human being will be better off without the interference of Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC); therefore, every human being is better off with lifetime chiropractic care.

  • Recognition that this world of sick and subluxated people produce a sick and subluxated world, what we call "The Predicament of the Species" (war, crime, domestic abuse, poisoning of the planet, government sleaze and manipulation, etc.). As more individuals and more families receive Chiropractic care and begin to function at higher levels, the community is positively impacted, as is, ultimately, the world. This is the "Big Vision of Chiropractic.”

I have been serving Marin and the San Francisco Bay Area since 1981, telling the truth, the whole truth, about Chiropractic, no matter what. I am a leader in my profession, and have had several articles published.

I serve people from newborns to those in their 90’s. They have come to me with migraines, asthma, vertigo, depression, ADHD, GERD, Irritable Bowel, Parkinson’s, hormonal issues, diabetes, heart conditions, herniated disks, carpal tunnel, “rotator cuff,” bad hips and knees (even “bone-on-bone”), urinary problems, thyroid, TMJ, just to name a few.

I stand ready to serve you and your family… with science, with skill, with dedication and passion. Call me now! I will help you!

3 Things to Avoid in Chiropractors

  • Avoid Physical Medicine Gimmicks: Beware when a chiropractor makes use of pain relieving gels, electrical stimulation devices, laser treatments, and especially those ridiculous disk decompression tables. You will find that the more “stuff” like this a chiropractor has, the less confidence that chiropractor has in his or her ability to adjust properly, and the less confidence he or she has in the ability of your body to heal itself. In other words, the more “stuff,” the more that chiropractor is confused, perhaps even totally lost. One more thing that doesn’t belong in a chiropractic office…. Massage. It may be nice, it may be natural, but it has nothing to do with what Chiropractic is about, the correction of Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). And, massage goes along with the whole “Chiropractic for back pain” myth.

  • Avoid Interest Only in Back or Neck Pain: Chiropractors who limit their practice to back and neck pain are giving you substandard care. In fact, most of these chiropractors limit their practice, and your care, strictly to what the HMO or “preferred provider panels” dictate. This kind of low level care isn't even sufficient for pain relief. It has no relation to the correction of Vertebral Subluxation Complex, and therefore, in truth, is not Chiropractic at all. It is third-rate physical medicine.

  • Avoid Lack of Focus and Direction: If you have “tried Chiropractic but it didn't work,” I’ll bet that your chiropractor did no real exam, no nerve scans, no X-rays, no re-exams, gave you no explanation of Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC), and only spoke of relieving your pain. (For just pain relief, Advil is cheaper.) Further, I would bet that you received no detailed plan of care, that you came in “when you needed it.” You’re right. This does not work.

You have already figured out the limitations of Medicine. Is it time for a totally different approach, to get a different, better, result?

You may have “tried Chiropractic, but it didn't work.” In all probability, the chiropractor you went to may have been delivering some sort of physical therapy/physical medicine, instead of Chiropractic. Time for the real thing… straight Chiropractic. Call me at (415) 460-6527. I will help you!

Dr. Harte Asks some important questions of interest to Corte Madera residents - Chiropractor Corte Madera Dr. Harte Asks...

How come medical doctors don't recommend chiropractic?
That's changing. Years of prejudice and bias are giving way to research showing the benefits of chiropractic care. As more and more Corte Madera folks seek alternatives to drugs and surgery, more and more medical practitioners are referring their patients to chiropractors.
What are the two things drugs do?
Drugs can either speed up (laxatives, amphetamines, caffeine) a bodily process, or slow down (stomach antacids, sleep aids, antihistamines, muscle relaxers) a bodily process. Chiropractic care can produce the same results, but relies on the intelligence of the body. Chiropractors trust your body. Do you?
